New Work from Chi-suji + Workshop News

Greetings from Yorkshire!

I was having a discussion with a photography friend earlier this week about the fact that when it comes to working on long term projects, it can be many months before the decision is made to include a certain image. This process has been the case for all of my major projects. When we arrive home from a photography trip or outing, in our minds we'll often have already selected those photographs which we deem to be the best, the keepers. Experience has shown me however, that this is very often not the case, especially when working on a series. It pays to distance ourselves from the excitement of the moment. Very often, over time, an overlooked image will suddenly speak to you and make complete sense, subtly finding its way into your story. Of course, conversely, sometimes we just know when we have a winner, when we are simply seeking a stand alone landscape image for example. Story telling requires a little more input. Which leads me to one of the points of this post!

You can see new work from Japan in my 'Chi-suji' gallery.

In workshop related news. I have planned a 'Beyond the Cairn' one day creative photography workshop in the Cairngorms National Park. All details can be found here. I'm really looking forward to sharing my knowledge of this stunning location. I'm also in the process of planning a Dorset 'Jurassic Coast' workshop. This stunning coastline is one that I've wanted to return to for some time. I have many happy memories of the previous workshops here. It's kind of nice to venture southwards occassionally!
