After an eventful 2024 I now have some quiet time to rest and recover after not long returning from Japan. My 2024 visit to Musashino Art University was the third and final year of the Visiting Professor tenure. This experience has been the most rewarding of my career to date. To see how students can achieve so much in just one week has been revelatory. Indeed, the whole experience of visiting Japan has been life changing for me on many levels: spiritually, creatively and emotionally.
It was with great pride then, on my return to the UK, to see one of my images on the cover of the latest issue of Black + White Photography magazine. This is of course a great honour and you can find the accompanying article on page 50 in the magazine. The work featured is from my series Chi-suji [Bloodlines], all of which has been made whilst in Japan, primarily in Hokkaido. Black + White Photography magazine has always been my favourite photography publication. Believe it or not, it always feels slightly odd to see my work in B+W photography magazine despite having all of my major series published over the past few years. I could never have imagined this when I started out. I guess hard work, passion and dedication has paid off. I have lived and breathed photography since I began to take it seriously in 2012. I hope you enjoy the feature!
2025 feels like a blank canvas for me. Not returning to Japan frees up a lot of time. My objective for the year is to collate all of my major work ready for publication as a series of monographs. I am never short of inspiration or ideas, and I'm usually working on two or three projects at a time.
With regards to tuition and workshops, I'd like to come up with some new ideas which enable me to share my passion for the natural world and creative thinking with you all. I'd like workshops to be a complete package, from inception of ideas to being out in the landscape and finally incorporating the all important post processing. Until I come up with some new packages based around those ideas, I am available for 1-2-1 tuition, both online and on location. Just to give you a little inspiration, you will be surprised what you can learn in a one hour Zoom session. With subjects such as Camera Technqiues, The Art of Composition, Finding Your Own Voice, and Working With Projects, there is something for everyone, from beginner to advanced. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with regards to anything photography related! Nothing makes me happier than sharing my knowledge and seeing people progress.
Wishing you all a very happy New Year!
