Hello all, long time no speak!
This is a quick update to share that I am delighted to be partnering with ALPA cameras for my upcoming return to Japan in less than four weeks time. It has been a bit of a roller coaster year for myself with various health issues which have been challenging to say the least. I've barely touched a camera all year for those reasons. However, I have been working on curating older projects and making plans for the future. Having been sent the ALPA has added extra motivation to go out and shoot! So, on Monday I took myself off to Saltwick Bay and Robin Hood's Bay on the North Yorkshire Coast. Getting back to basics with no pressure, the only goal being to enjoy the experience.
I've run some fantastic workshops at Saltwick Bay over the years, some more memorable than others. I recall the time when the snow came in off the sea, it was so cold that most of the group had to abandon. That was a very interesting day!
The images in this post are the first few frames I've made with the ALPA 12 Max + Hasselblad CFV II 50C digital back. I can liken the experience of shooting with this set up to the analogue process. Functionality is basic, none of the bells and whistles of current mirrorless/DSLR systems. One might call it a purists way of working, not in an elitist way, more a way of working which leaves the mind uncluttered. Allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the craft of photography. I'm really pleased with these first few images. The colours are very natural. I should only grow more accustomed to this way of working over the coming weeks and I'm looking forward to sharing more with you soon.
I am now taking bookings for 2025, including 1-2-1 workshops and online tuition. At present I have only planned one group workshop, which is a Winter Solitude theme, booking is available here.
That's all for now!
Karl.
